The kids are getting too big! I know it's a cliche, but I really can't believe how quickly they grow! They fill my life with joy, frustration, humility, and a lot of laughter.
Russell woke up this morning with a fever and a tummy ache (aaah! the dreaded stomach bug!) He spent most of his day on the couch with his pillow and blanky watching a never-ending rotation of Dora episodes with a little Thomas the Train and Shrek thrown in. Evie received a Dr.'s Kit for Christmas last year, and she got all of her medical equipment out so she could properly tend to her little brother. Daddy had brought some latex gloves home from work so she and Anna put those on and took turns feeling Russell's hot little head and proclaiming him very feverish indeed. Poor Russell didn't feel well enough to protest much. Evie wore her white lab coat and added an art apron. I wasn't quite sure what the apron was for until she asked me, "Do Doctors get thrown up on?" Hmm, smart girl. Better to be safe than sorry when sudden vomiting might be involved.
So we will say a little prayer tonight that the stomach bug stops at Russell and will not get anyone else sick on this holiday weekend right before the start of school!

Elkins Update
Hello all! I can't believe the summer is nearly over! The kids start school on the 4th of September. Julianna is excited to start kindergarten and Evie is going into 2nd grade! I can't believe it! I'll have Russell and Leila at home all day, and Julianna has half day kindergarten, so she'll still be here in the mornings too. I have to admit I was hoping she'd have am kindergarten, but they called yesterday and told me she has pm. So much for using my double jogging stroller every morning after the girls get off to school! Maybe once it cools down I'll be able to go after she leaves in the afternoon.
Clark has been in and out with his ship, but not as much as he was before his last deployment. He's out right now until Friday. His next deployment begins in February, but he shouldn't have to stay out the full six or seven months since he is due to separate from the Navy in early June. We are excited that we have less than a year before we'll say goodbye to Navy life and settle down somewhere. We don't know where yet, but we'll keep you posted!
