Botanical Gardens

I'm still trying to figure out how best to format these posts! It's all a bit confusing! Well, the slide show below is of our trip to the Botanical Gardens of Norfolk on Labor Day. It's only a 20 minute drive from our house so I felt silly that we hadn't been before. The kids had so much fun running around and seeing all the neat flowers and plants. Our faves: the butterfly garden, the rose garden, the trolley ride, and the kid's area with the fountains the the kids could run through.

One of the pictures in the slide show is of Anna holding Leila's hand in the stroller. Leila doesn't look too thrilled about it, but Anna was holding her hand because we were walking around the "Friendship Pond" and legend has it that if you walk around it holding hands you'll be friends forever. We were goofy and walked around it all holding hands as a family.

The only other thing worth mentioning is when we lost Anna. Clark and I split up in the kids area and we both thought she was with the other one. I'm embarrassed to say I don't even know how many times I've momentarily (or even more the momentarily) lost one of my kids. Am I a bad mom?? But that panicked feeling when I realize I don't know where one of them is makes my heart drop. She was fine, thank goodness. When I was looking for her a man came up and asked if I was looking for a little girl about "this tall" and he made a gesture to his chest. That really confused me, because Anna is tall for her age, but not freakishly tall. At any rate, he pointed me in the right direction, so I am grateful to him, even if he has no sense of a child's height.

I'm thinking we might have to go back to the Gardens as the leaves turn colors or maybe for all the lights at Christmas. Oh, and by the way, Happy Fall!! Today is the first official day of Fall and it's my FAVORITE season! Can't wait to see everyone's pumpkin patch and Halloween pictures! Good times.

I sure hope you're not a bad mom for losing a kid at the Botanical Gardens, or else I think most of us would be considered bad moms...we lost Clark at the movie theatre once and it took us about 5 minutes to find him. It happened when Jeff took Dana out to use the bathroom, and Clark followed, but Jeff never knew that Clark had followed, and Jeff came back with just Dana, never having even seen Clark the whole time they were out. Wow, we missed a good chunk of our movie during our search party! It sure makes you think about using brightly colored matching shirts when you go places as a family, doesn't it?
